Project Title: Maintain Your Wellness Success Seminar
Objective: The Community Education Intervention Project will provide the intern an opportunity to gain experience applying the Nutrition Care Process in a community setting at their affiliated community practice site. The intern will be responsible for performing a needs assessment, utilizing the assessment data to identify a problem in the targeted population, implementing a related intervention, and evaluating the effectiveness of the intervention. An emerging trend should be highlighted through the identification of an emerging trend related to the health of communities and/or the delivery of the intervention to the targeted population. A report will be developed and will consist of a cover page, overview, nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, nutrition monitoring and evaluation, and the appendix.

The Community Education Intervention will meet the following competencies for the RD from ACEND accreditation standards for IP:
Corporate Wellness Programs have been shown to improve the health and well-being of employees, reduce risk of chronic disease, improve productivity, reduce healthcare costs, and lead to better management of chronic health conditions. Interventions that incorporate educational components have been shown to be most effective for cost savings, and programs with lifestyle management components are most effective in reducing the number of employees engaging in high-risk health activities such as smoking, obesity, and inactivity. B.Komplete is a corporate wellness
firm offering programs tailored to fit each clients’ individual needs. Menson Architecture, Inc., headquartered in Philadelphia, hired B.Komplete to manage a 1-year wellness program for their employees effective April 2016. As just one of B.Komplete’s various program offerings, wellness seminars are developed to serve as educational sessions covering various topic areas. Seminars are held in a classroom-style environment, and engage employees with a PowerPoint presentation given by a professional speaker. A seminar entitled “Maintain Your Wellness Success” was developed for the purpose of this intervention, which educated employees on visualizing and achieving their wellness goals. Evaluation of the seminar was done to determine short-term effectiveness, and was based on question-and-answer sessions during and after the seminar. Long-term effects will be evaluated by analyzing employees’ health risk assessment scores after attending the 1-year program. As just one of the many health interventions in
B.Komplete’s year-long wellness program, “Maintain Your Wellness Success” served to enhance the desire of employees to make improved dietary choices and to increase physical activity levels. Longer-term effects will be gathered over the remainder of the program

- Conduct feasibility studies for products, programs or services with consideration of costs and benefits (CRD 4.8)
- Analyze financial data to assess utilization of resources (CRD 4.9)
- Conduct a needs assessment investigating environmental, social, economic, and clinical issues
or application in dietetics practice (ETD 5.2) - Demonstrate leadership through coordination in the development, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of a health and wellness initiative (ETD 5.5)
