Project Title: Clinical Case Report: Nutrition Management post Bowel Resection
Objective: To practice in-depth analysis of the Nutrition Care Process, to apply the Nutrition Care Process to a specific disease-state requiring nutrition support (enteral and/or parenteral nutrition), to demonstrate proficiency with technology and developing professional presentations, to demonstrate public speaking ability.
Competencies Met:
The Clinical Case Study will meet the following competencies for the RD from ACEND accreditation standards for IP:
The Clinical Case Report project will provide the intern an opportunity to practice in-depth analysis and application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), provide constructive feedback to intern peers, and further develop public speaking ability. A minimum of one major case report will be submitted towards the end of the clinical rotation, to show evidence of the intern’s application of the NCP and evidence-based practice in a complex adult case concerning critical illness requiring nutrition support. The patient must require either enteral, parenteral, or a combination of both.
A minimum of two peer-reviewed journal articles will be utilized in development of the case report, in addition to textbooks, websites, and other relevant resources. The case is written utilizing Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (JAND) Author Guidelines and the American Medical Association Manual of Style, 10th edition (copies provided). Style guidelines must be followed. Utilize the headings and subheadings below and the JAND Author Guidelines.
The Clinical Case Report project will consist of the written assignment as well as an oral presentation of the case, utilizing a Power Point presentation. Detail is provided below to define minimum expectations for each section of the written assignment and the oral presentation.
Supporting Documents: Due to the sensitive nature of the patient-specific material included in the Clinical Case Report, the full supporting documents have been excluded from this section of the portfolio. See clips from the intern's PowerPoint slide deck below.
